IESC Awarded New Food for Progress Program in Dominican Republic
The United States Embassy and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Dominican Republic signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen the country’s public and private capacities in Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) through the implementation of the Trade Safe (TraSa) program by the International Executive Service Corps (IESC). The five-year program is financed with a $13.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). TraSa aims to improve the efficiency, coordination and transparency of trade; improve the safety of food and agricultural products; expand local, regional, and international trade in agricultural products; increase agricultural productivity; and improve access to safe food for Dominican consumers. Furthermore, it aims to strengthen quarantine inspection systems to minimize the risk of introducing exotic pests and diseases, and contributes towards improving inspection systems for export-oriented products.
