African swine fever risk tool aids Dominican Republic pork producers
To help prevent the spread and control the risks associated with African Swine Fever (ASF) in the Dominican Republic, IESC’s USDA-funded Trade Safe (TraSa) Project team and core-partner Purdue University collaborated with Dominican veterinarians to develop BioPorc-RD, an online tool that enables pig farmers to assess the level of risk on their farms. In addition to the self-assessment, BioPorc-RD educates farmers on various biosecurity practices, such as quarantining new pigs and checking feed, and how to implement them, and raises awareness on ASF entry points. This tool is helping Dominican farmers to protect their pigs and their incomes.
