IESC Announces David Rockefeller Spirit of Service Award Winner, Sujeewa De Alwis
The David Rockefeller Spirit of Service Award recognizes outstanding and continuing contributions to IESC. Established in 1992, the award is named for IESC founder and American business leader David Rockefeller who, among other accomplishments, was Chairman and CEO of Chase Manhattan Bank. David Rockefeller founded IESC with the belief that businesses are the engines that drive economic growth and innovation, and that supporting them can lift countries and people out of poverty. Since 1964, IESC has catalyzed private sector growth and created economic opportunity for people and communities throughout the economically developing world. The Spirit of Service Award honors those who, through superior and sustained performance, dedication, and commitment, work to improve the lives of others.
This year’s recipient is Sujeewa De Alwis, who has gone above and beyond to support IESC’s global work for the past 30 years. Sujeewa was first introduced to IESC as a chemist at Brown Paint Company in Sri Lanka, where IESC volunteers helped the company grow. Sujeewa joined IESC in 1991 as the Deputy Chief of Party for our successful USAID-funded Technology Initiative for the Private Sector in Sri Lanka. Sujeewa joined our home office in the U.S. in 2004 and managed programs in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, and South Africa. He is now a key member of our finance and accounting team as the Associate Vice President, Finance and Budget Reporting. Sujeewa has worked endlessly to support IESC’s global work, going above and beyond in all his roles. Sujeewa is recognized for his strong work ethic, sincere dedication to IESC’s mission, and contributions to organizational priorities, including the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Committee.
