The Egypt: Forward forum took place on June 27-28, 2011, in Washington, D.C. at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, with the goal of encouraging enhanced trade and sustainable economic development in Egypt. By bringing over 50 leading Egyptian policy makers and private sector executives together with U.S. business leaders and government officials, the Forum provided an unprecedented opportunity to foster increased cooperation and trade between the United States and Egypt by encouraging business-to-business networking and highlighting commercial opportunities and financing resources. Breakout sessions focused on four priority economic sectors: energy, information and communications technologies, transportation and agriculture.
Following the Forum, the Egyptian delegates traveled to additional cities across the United States (June 29- July 1) to meet with U.S. companies and discuss opportunities to work in Egypt. For more information, please click the links below.
Energy Site Visit – Houston, TX
Over the last 20 years, Egypt’s electricity sector has remained highly lucrative for foreign and local investment, while Egypt has begun to focus on expanding the role of alternative energy sources. In support of Egypt’s efforts to expand and diversify its robust energy sector, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency sponsored a site visit focused on the Energy sector to promote trade, investment and commercial opportunities in Egypt.
The energy site visit, organized by the Graduate School in partnership with IESC, allowed the delegation to meet with U.S.-based private and public companies in the energy sector. During the site visit, delegates participated in a Business Briefing, where they had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with U.S. participants. Following the Business Briefing, an evening reception hosted prominent public and private sector stakeholders in the energy sector.
The site visit followed the two-day Egypt: Forward Forum on June 27-28, 2011 in Washington, D.C., which brought together key Egyptian and U.S. public and private sector representatives for sessions focusing on trade, investment and project finance and for business-to-business networking and deal-making meetings.

ICT Site Visit – Silicon Valley, CA
Over the last decade, Egypt’s technology infrastructure has grown exponentially, as has the number of technology users in the country. The Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology continues to encourage innovation in the ICT sector and has launched a new 2010 ICT Strategy to consolidate and build on progress made to date. In support of this initiative, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency sponsored a site visit focused on the ICT sector to promote trade, investment and commercial opportunities in Egypt.
The ICT site visit, organized by IESC, allowed the delegation to meet with U.S.-based Egyptian technology associations, private U.S. companies, and public sector authorities in Silicon Valley, California. During the trip, delegates participated in a Business Briefing, where they had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with U.S. participants. Following the Business Briefing, an evening reception hosted prominent public and private sector stakeholders in the ICT sector.

Transportation Site Visit – New York City, NY
In support of Egypt’s investment and reforms in the transportation sector, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency sponsored a transportation-focused site visit to promote trade, investment and commercial opportunities in Egypt.
The transportation site visit, organized by the Graduate School in partnership with IESC, allowed the delegation to visit airports and maritime ports and meet with U.S.-based transportation associations, private U.S. companies, and public sector authorities in New York, New York. During the site visit, delegates participated in a Business Briefing where they had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with U.S. participants. Following the Business Briefing, an evening reception hosted prominent public and private sector stakeholders in the transportation sector.

Agribusiness Site Visit – Omaha, NE
Agribusiness remains one of the most important and steadily growing sectors in the Egyptian economy. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Foreign Commercial Service in Cairo and the Egyptian Embassy have identified the food and beverage and irrigation industries as particularly promising areas of growth in the sector. In support of Egypt’s growth in this sector, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency sponsored a site visit focused on the agribusiness sector to promote trade, investment and commercial opportunities in Egypt.
The agribusiness site visit, organized by IESC, allowed the delegation to meet with cutting-edge U.S. irrigation equipment designers and manufacturers as well as major packaged food companies in Omaha, Nebraska. During the site visit, delegates participated in a Business Briefing, where they had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with U.S. participants. Following the Business Briefing, an evening reception hosted prominent public and private sector stakeholders in the agribusiness sector.
