USAID’s ABADE Program Opens Regional Office in Herat

HERAT, AFGHANISTAN | MAY 27 – Afghan business owners struggle to obtain the capital, management advice, equipment, and technologies needed to grow their businesses. Women and youth can make significant contributions to private sector growth but have limited opportunities for economic participation.

USAID, in parternship with VEGA/IESC, successfully opened the new regional office for the Assistance in Building Afghanistan by Developing Enterprises (ABADE) Program in Herat City. ABADE aims to significantly improve the lives of people in Afghanistan by helping Afghan businesses grow their businesses. In attendance were over 60 representatives the local government, the private sector and businesses, including business women from Herat.

“The US Government is committed to help. We are putting special emphasis on small and medium enterprises, which have the greatest potential for creating jobs for Afghans.” Said USAID Deputy Director for Economic Growth Theodora B Dell

“I believe that the ABADE program will improve the value chain of products through its goals and structure.” Said Herat Governor Economic Advisor Mr. Ibrahimi

ABADE partners with the private sector to increase investment, job creation, and productivity of businesses, with a focus on advancing opportunities for women and youths.
