Lebanon Investment in Microfinance Program Provides Sales Training to Microfinance Institutions

Beirut, Lebanon ‘ The Lebanon Investment in Microfinance (LIM) Program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), delivered a series of seven Sales training workshops to leading local microfinance institutions (MFIs) throughout the month of February 2012. The workshop was delivered on four occasions at the offices of two of the MFI partners.
A total of 176 microfinance loan officers and managers, 39 percent of whom were women, from nine local microfinance institutions (MFIs), completed the one-day training sessions. The highly interactive training workshop entitled ‘MFI Loan Officers Sales & Customer Care’ was aimed at targeting both Loan officers’ technical sales skills and personal development capacities leading to enhanced public relations, customer care and sales approaches. The final session included participants from earlier workshops highlighting the effect of the interventions they learned at the workshop in their daily interaction with beneficiaries. Following each training seminar, certificates of participation were awarded to the course attendees.
The workshops were conducted by Mr. Samir Zehil, founder of Wydner Coaches, with representation offices in Lebanon, the United States and Sweden. As one participant stated, ‘We are thankful to the LIM Program and to USAID for bringing together all the MFI professionals to collaborate, participate and benefit from the quality trainings delivered by the program’.
Since its launch in May 2009, the USAID-funded LIM Program has disbursed 4,320 loans to 4,320 business owners, 39% out of which represent women entrepreneurs. The total value of loans to date is estimated at about $8,166,996 disbursed to businesses in the agriculture, information and communication technology and tourism value chains. Of the total loan value, $2,293,533 was provided to women borrowers.
