IESC Chairman Emeritus Dan Burke Dies at 82
IESC’s former Chairman Daniel B. Burke passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at his home in Rye, NY. Prior to joining IESC, Dan, along with business partner Tom Murphy, built Capital Cities Communications into a radio, television and print powerhouse. In the landmark acquisition of its time, CapCities acquired ABC, which was the nation’s third largest network and ten times Capital Cities’ size. Today, the combined organization, renamed ABC, is part of the Walt Disney Company.
Dan was a long time sponsor of minor league baseball and was active in many business, cultural, and philanthropic activities. He served as Chairman of the IESC Board of Directors for most of the 1990’s. Our current chairman, John Torell, had this to say about his contributions to IESC: “He brought to that position the same energy, drive, dedication, and standards of excellence that he displayed at Capital Cities. IESC will be forever thankful for the legacy which he left our organization. Dan was our friend, and we express our sincere condolences to his family.”
Dan is survived by his wife Harriet, son Frank, daughter Sally and 14 grandchildren.
